Our Senior Department was previously resident in what was the old Sarn Garage; a three bedroom detached house with office and mechanics workshop areas. The building fabric had been substantively improved and for many years the site provided us with a workable and effective school, if somewhat unusual and intimate. However, by 2013 we were very ready for an upgrade in facilities and plans were actioned to make this happen.
Our Senior Department now shares the same site as our Junior Department. Our Junior Department took residence, in 2005, in what had originally been the local village primary school, closing some years earlier. Both departments now stand side by side, enjoying excellent facilities and extensive outdoor recreation areas. The Senior build was completed in early 2013 and both departments are well resourced, with our close proximity allowing for excellent cross school collaboration, evidenced best by our very effective transition arrangements.
Outdoor Recreation Areas
We now have excellent learning facilities for both Junior and Senior Departments, set amongst the foothills of the beautiful Kerry Ridgeway. However, consolidation and improvement are always school priorities. In recent times we have added a new Junior Department Hall, have landscaped the school site, have refurbished adjoining sports facilities and are currently refurbishing our Design Technology Workshop; we are always keen to improve and recognise that successful learning is best supported by excellent premises.
We have adopted the self-directed approach to learning. The benefits of self-directed learning are numerous. It promotes in students a natural development of self-confidence, perseverance, initiative and accountability. With self-directed learning, students become lifelong learners, and its benefits can be felt long after a student has left school.
