A warm welcome back to all students, I hope you all had a wonderful summer. Whilst you have been on holiday it’s been a busy time at the Newtown Campus. Exam results in August were very pleasing; students performed exceptionally well in Year 11. All students achieved 100% A*- C in 5 GCSE’s including English and Maths. Latest news from Exchange Place is that we are the second highest performing Campus in relation to the value added from the end of Primary to Year 11. Congratulations to students and thank you to the staff.
Over the summer our cabin has been transformed under the classroom challenge competition and looks fantastic. Well done to all students involved, the video should be completed next week to complete our entry.
The Trust has also been busy updating ICT facilities with new and improved Wi-Fi across the campus. Students in Year 12 and 13 were issued with top of the range laptops with touch screen capability to use both at home and at school. Year 7 and 8 were issued with new laptops for use in school.
Staff were involved in two days planning for SDL projects which have got off to a good start, there will be a parents evening in the near future to give further details about SDL.
Year 12 and 13 students sacrificed a day of their holidays to come in to school to discuss their choices, and also their new leadership roles within school. As the eldest students in the school, they play a crucial role in setting a good example and leading on different aspects of school life. This week Tom and Giles were involved in meeting our new Regional Principal Tamra Bradbury and giving her a guided tour. Georgia spent some time supporting students in the Primary School.
Last summer’s Year 6 SDL homework project has yielded some brilliant work, these will be judged shortly. Primary school students have started the term off superbly.
Finally a big thank you for the very warm welcome I have received, the students have been truly wonderful and very helpful. I am hoping to meet parents over the next few weeks.
